Become An Explorer Of Yourself

A big library with comfortable furniture, the most astonishing view of the mountains and perfect warm light to read.

The student took a sip of his tea. It was hot, the way his Master had taught him, almost to the point of burning the lips and tongue. The steam coming from the tea fogged his glasses as his Master entered the room. A big library with comfortable furniture, the most astonishing view of the mountains and perfect warm light to read.

“Conditions often fog our view of things” said the Master.

The student nodded cryptically. But this comment reminded him of a thing that had bothered him in the last days.

“I’ve been asking myself how to start the journey to knowing myself without asking the question HOW”, said the student hesitant of his words.

“You’re looking for a safe boat there”, the Master replied.

“You mean that I’m looking for a definitive answer or a definitive KEY of some sort?”

“Exactly.”

“Is that bad?”

“There is no good or bad when you seek to know yourself and start the journey of Truth.”

“Then what is the problem?”

“The problem to what?”

“What is the problem with seeking for an answer that unlocks everything?”

“The problem is that the question implies that there is such a thing as a KEY to open everything.”

“So you’re saying there is no KEY?”

“Naturally. At least not the way you think.”

The student leaned back on his sit, and pondered for a minute.

The student looked at his tea, and said “I know the answer is in me, but that is precisely the problem, I don’t know where or how to start.”

The Master smiled.

“Then you haven’t really understood the words that you just said.”

The student frown.

The Master continued.

“The moment you marry this knowledge with understanding, you’ll know what to do and where to start.”

“I know this, I really do.”

“To know is not the same as to understand.”

“Not asking for a How is difficult.”

“You’ve never thought in another way, it is only natural that you think about this way.”

“Maybe if I have an example I could understand better.”

The Master stood up, and walked to one of the bookshelves he had in the room. He stood in front of one with his hands behind his back and looked around. He leaned forward and reached for a small notebook. He gave it to the student and then sat down at this sofa.

“What’s this?” the student asked.

“It is the first notebook I wrote. I write my everyday thoughts, findings, questions and overall analysis of everything.”

“What do you mean with ‘first’?”

“Take a look at the bookshelf where I took it.”

The student stood up and moved towards the bookshelf. It was the biggest one in the room. It was full of notebooks of all colors and sizes. All of them labeled with a number and a year. There were hundreds of them.

The Master continued.

“That is my way. I write. Nobody told me to do it. It just happened.”

“The moment you understood.” The student replied.

“Exactly.”

“You’re not telling me I have to write hundreds of notebooks myself right?”

“I’m telling you that when you understand that the question ‘How’ makes you into a robot and a slave of an answer and a method, you’ll find a way to explore EVERYTHING by yourself.”
